A Snowy Sunday

It started out as a light flutter,
nearly invisible against the grey sky
as a few flakes fell upon the green grass
The roads clean and black,
barely even wet,
as I drove down them to church

We sing, read the text,
then during the sermon
my eye happens to glance
out the tall, narrow window
that perfectly frames the sight
of two trees, one coniferous,
the other deciduous,
as they begin to slowly turn white

While the minister explains
that the Holy Spirit completes
the work of the Father and the Son,
Through the faith that the Spirit
has graciously set in my heart,
I marvel at God the Father’s creation
in humble worship

After the service,
the snow falls thickly
upon my phone screen
while I snap a picture
of the scene I had seen

I don’t drive straight home,
instead pulling off my route
onto a quiet looping side road
There I soak in the scenery
the snow gradually
making my hair wet
And take several more pictures

Eventually, I return to familiar home

  1. I like the sharpness of the leafless trees in your black and white photos.

Beautiful stanza: “While the minister explains
    that the Holy Spirit completes
the work of the Father and the Son,
Through the faith that the Spirit
has graciously set in my heart,
I marvel at God the Father’s creation
    in humble worship “
