Romanticized Past

(June 2015)

We romanticize

things of the past,

our memory oddly clear

the longer we fall into nostalgia

and so I begin to question

my actions

giving the “what if’s”

amazing answers.

The world in my mind

calls to me,

inviting me further in,

making me desire you

making me wish I’d said “yes”

But I said “no”

And I said it with reason

and the decision was clear

You are not the person I want

I created that person

and I did not create you
